PERFORMERS
Lithuanian Symphonic Wind Orchestra
Conductor: Cristóbal Soler (Spain)
Soloist: Lorena Valero (mezzo-soprano, Spain)
This concert celebrates the vibrant Spanish musical tradition of zarzuela, a genre that brings together music, dance and words and has become a symbol of Spanish culture and character. Under the baton of renowned Spanish conductor Cristóbal Soler – an acknowledged virtuoso of the Spanish repertoire – the orchestra will unveil the true personality and vivid colours of this genre. From 2010 to 2015, Soler served as musical director at the Teatro de la Zarzuela (National Zarzuela Theatre) in Madrid. He is currently the principal conductor of Banda Simfònica Municipal de València (Valencia Municipal Symphonic Orchestra) and is also the founding president of the Spanish Association of Orchestra Conductors (AESDO). Under his direction, the orchestra, together with mezzo-soprano, Lorena Valero and her arias, will share with us the passionate and rhythmic world of zarzuela. The programme will feature impressive orchestral wind works, including Rafael Taléns’ energetic Tercio de quites, Enrique Cárcel’s Terra de conquests, Reveriano Soutullo and Juan Vert’s lyrical La leyenda del beso intermedio. These will be complemented by expressive vocal pieces: José Serrano’s Cancion veneciana El carro del sol, Pablo Sorozábal’s Romanza de Ascensión. La del Manojo de Rosas, and others.
