This concert is organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Ireland, to commemorate the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The programme focuses on a dialogue between two cultures, where the Irish (uilleann) pipes and the Lithuanian Symphonic Wind Orchestra meet, bringing to life the idea of unity and European partnership. The first part features M. K. Čiurlionis’ symphonic poem Miške and the works of the American classic A. Copland, paving the way between national identity and universal values. The concert culminates in a special premiere of a work by Shaun Davey, co-commissioned by the LSPO, in partnership with the Embassy of Ireland in Lithuania, where Uilleann pipes virtuoso Mark Redmond, together with Lithuanian performers, masterfully combines tradition and modernity.

Shaun Davey is one of the most prominent contemporary Irish composers, whose work combines Irish folk music and classical orchestral traditions. His monumental works are often dedicated to Irish history and culture, and his most famous works, such as The Brendan Voyage, made Uilleann pipes famous worldwide in a symphonic context. Davey has won the prestigious Ivor Novello Award, two BAFTA nominations, and a Tony nomination for his music for Broadway musicals.

Mark Redmond is a master of the Irish pipes, who has earned recognition in both the traditional and classical music scenes. Mr. Redmond has performed with such groups as the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and performed in the famous show Riverdance. He has played at major Irish state events, including the visit of Pope Francis and the official visit of Queen Elizabeth II to Ireland. The artist currently teaches traditional music at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
