It will be performed by the festival’s guest, the professional Riga Municipal Wind Orchestra, Orķestris RĪGA, one of the most important creative activities of which is to follow the pulse of the repertoire of this genre around the world introducing it to audiences. The programme will feature minimalist compositions by the renowned Latvian composer Imants Kalniņš, works by the world’s young stars Eric Whitacre and John Mackey, and an intriguing concerto for jazz piano and brass by Dana Wilson. The solo in this last piece, will be performed by one of the most active and interesting Lithuanian jazz pianists of today, Dmitrij Golovanov. Constantly shifting between different genres, the pianist has won awards at prestigious jazz competitions, performed with different ensembles in many countries and at renowned jazz festivals.
