As the title of the programme suggests, the closing concert of the festival might be seen as a kind of homage to Vilnius’s culture. The Lithuanian Symphony Wind Orchestra will transform the Dance Theatre Hall of the Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis Art Gymnasium into a noisy engine—the flawless mechanics of which, will be guaranteed by the intelligently selected pieces. They are united by the denominators of rhythm, pulse and virtuosity, regulated by the orchestra’s Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, Leif Karlsson (Sweden) like the levers of a high-speed train. An eclectic cocktail of symphonic brass music will transport you to an American metropolis, an exotic Mediterranean coastline and even to the time of Louis XIII, while John Mackey’s Asphalt Cocktail, accompanied by an incandescent percussion group will reveal all the secrets of the urban orchestra’s “mechanism” and will not leave anyone unmoved.
